Energy storage technologies finding their niches

Energy storages technologies – existing and emerging – are finding their places within the emerging ‘smart’ energy future. Ultimately no one technology will dominate a more renewable, distributed and interconnected energy system.  

In an article examining underground storage technology, Dow Jones reporter Mark Peters notes from his conversation with KEMA that “while pump storage is a proven technique, the systems can be difficult to site, limited by natural topography and susceptible to seasonal dry spells. And that the power industry is pursuing a range of options, and it’s unlikely that one will come to dominate.”
